Thomas “Tom” Edward Warne peacefully returned home to Heavenly Father on August 4, 2024. Thomas was born on August 16, 1930, in Cagayan de Oro, a small town on the northern coast of Mindanao, the southernmost island in the Philippines. He was the second of three sons born to Robert Ellis Warne and Dorothy Dunbar Head.
Robert and Dorothy Warne were sent by Del Monte Pineapple Corporation to the Philippines to start the pineapple plantation and cannery operations there. Tom was born on the kitchen table in their plantation home. Also working for Del Monte Pineapple was Norris and Violet Wadsworth, parents of Terry. Thomas and Terry were childhood friends. Just prior to WWII, Tom’s family relocated to Hawaii to start an orchid nursery business. The Warne family witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7,1941 and Terry’s family was taken prisoners of war by the Japanese in the Philippines for three years. After the war, Tom and Terry were reunited in California, courted, and were married in 1951. Tom graduated from UC Berkley in Business Management and was hired by Dole Pineapple in Hawaii. Tom joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1962 and was sealed to Terry, and four of their children, a year later in the Laie Temple. Tom was then assigned by Dole Pineapple Corp to start the Dolefil Pineapple plantation and cannery in the Philippines. In 1963, Tom was tasked with several other managers to establish, from ground up to full operating production, the Dolefil plantation and cannery. Tom would spend the next 30 years working for Dole/Castle & Cooke as Vice President of Logistics, in charge of planning the production and distribution of Pineapple in Hawaii, Philippines, Thailand, Mainland US, and throughout Europe.
Tom and Terry lived a life of service welcoming more than 200 abused and neglected foster children into their home. In 1997, Tom and Terry retired to South Jordan, Utah where they served five missions—CES as Handicap Seminary Instructors, two Church Archives Missions in Salt Lake City, the Philippines Manila Mission, and the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Terry, and parents Robert and Dorothy Warne. He is survived by his children Richard (Jane), Thomas (Renae), Carol (Jim), Sally (Gary), Robert (Karmy), and David (Heather) 28 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his unfailing kindness to all.
