Vada Smith Brimley, 90, of Morgan, Utah, passed away May 26, 2022, at her home, of natural causes.
She was a true native of Morgan, born June 10, 1931, the fifth child of Arnold Hyrum and Ines Morris Smith. As a child Vada grew up on a cattle ranch and farm with her brothers and sister, doing her share of the chores. She enjoyed many trips to their family cabin in the high mountains behind her home.
Vada attended Morgan High School. One of her favorite subjects was art, and that talent led to scholarship at Weber State College. As a young woman, she learned how to dance from her high school sweetheart and husband to be Robert F Brimley (Chub). They were both so light on their feet, that anyone watching could tell they loved to dance together. They would always draw a crowd when they were out on the dance floor.
Vada and Robert were married on September 15, 1951. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage, raised their children in such a beautiful valley. They remodeled their historical adobe brick home into a place where friends and family were always welcome. Vada took pride in keeping her home and yard immaculate. They were blessed with four children. Her children loved coming home and sitting around the table and talking about their day while enjoying homemade after-school snacks. Vada always had a well-stocked pantry of home-canned foods that she would put up using the bounty of their abundant garden. Her family has enjoyed many wonderful home-cooked meals that she had prepared over the years.
Vada is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a member of the Jaycees and served as a secretary and a historian. She was a member of the Birthday Club and looked forward to the monthly activities, often developing lifelong friendships. She served as a Cub Scout leader and 4-H leader, where she participated in many campouts. Vada was always involved in supporting the community, attending community activities and sporting events. She was a very caring person and devoted a great deal of time through the years helping and caring for her loved ones.
Vada was a domestic engineer while her children were growing up. Then worked for Hill Air Force Base, Browning Arms, and retired from Morgan School District. She enjoyed her job at the school, especially seeing and talking to the children.
In addition to her 4 children, Vada has 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She loved hosting her grandchildren and their friends, in playing board games into the wee hours of the night.
Vada hosted the yearly Smith Family Reunion for a period of forty years. Making sure everyone had an opportunity to get to know their cousins. Planning great food, activities, to keep the families together.
Vada enjoyed traveling from Hawaii to New York from Canada to South America, and many places in between.
The one thing that has not changed through the years is the pride that Vada had for being part of the Morgan community, a place she loved to call home and where she enjoyed and loved many friends, neighbors, and family.
