Vern C. Wiggill, 86, passed away February 3, 2022. Vern was born April 19, 1935 in Layton, UT. He was the first of two sons born to Joseph Stanford and Florence May Cook Wiggill. He grew up in Layton and graduated from Davis High School and LDS Seminary in 1953.
On April 25, 1956, Vern and Colleen Smith were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Vern and Colleen made their home in Layton until purchasing a farm in Morgan, UT where they spent 47 years together raising their family and creating memories.
Vern made his career at Hill Air Force Base in the aerial photography shop and enjoyed working on high-altitude cameras, and then later in the aircraft missile shop until his retirement in 1992. He was one of the original members of the Morgan County Search & Rescue where he participated for over 30 years. Vern and Colleen enjoyed many adventures together, most notably a two-month excursion to Alaska with good friends Dorothy & Willis Packard. Many friendships were made as they spent their winters in St. George and Yuma and their summers camping in the Uinta’s and Flaming Gorge. Colleen passed away in 2003.
After Colleen’s passing, Vern was blessed to meet Loretta Day Rigby. They were married November 20, 2004. Vern had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing at Flaming Gorge and Glen Canyon as well as photographing beautiful scenery. Vern and Loretta loved to head south for the winter months, returning for the Christmas holiday to spend time with family and to continue the tradition of making delicious peanut brittle.
Vern is survived by his children: Steven Vern Wiggill, Janet (Shane) Taggart, Annette (Roger) Prescott and Larry S. Wiggill. He is also survived by Loretta’s children: Lynn (Kathy) Rigby, Jerrie Drake, Terrie (Ray) Beard, Bobby (Brenda) Rigby and Robert and Jan Morgan. Vern was fortunate to have many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, wife Colleen, brother Reed C. Wiggill and stepdaughter Jackie Morgan.
Funeral services will be held at the Porterville church (2700 S Morgan Valley Dr) on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will also be held at Walker Mortuary (45 West 200 North) on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at the Porterville church prior to funeral services.
Interment will be at the South Morgan Cemetery.
