Morgan - Verna Jane Rose Haslam passed away Sept 15, 2008 at her home in Morgan of causes incident to age.
Verna was born Dec. 30, 1928 in Richville, Morgan County, Utah to Stanley Benson and Renske Boekweg Rose. She lived and worked on the family farm in Richville and graduated from Morgan High School.
She married Briar Dee Haslam on Feb 2, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they served in the San Bernardino California Mission and as workers in the Ogden Temple.
Verna spent her life in service to others. She touched many lives as a 4-H leader for over 49 years, continuing until the last two years of her life. She loved to quilt. Verna delighted in exhibiting goods at the county fair and guided others as a fair judge in Morgan, Summit, Weber, Davis and Rich counties as well as in Wyoming. Verna graduated from Weber College with a degree in music as an accomplished cornet player; she loved music.
Verna was a talented cook and spent many years providing home cooked meals for the Sr. Citizens of Morgan, always including fresh peeled potatoes and homemade bread. She worked at Hill Air Force Base and later became a custodian for the LDS church, taking great pride and reverence in meticulously caring for the Milton building. Verna loved the outdoors, animals, gardening, and flowers. She delighted in decorating the house for every holiday.
Verna is survived by her husband, Dee; children: Renske (David) Crittenden, South Weber; Randy, Morgan; Regina, Orem; Rodney (Valarie) and Roland (Julie) both of Morgan; 13 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Also surviving are sisters: Dorothy Harris of Calif; and Rose Marie Flygare of Ogden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Edison Rose, August Rose; and sister, Mary Mae Davis.
The family would like to express many thanks to Hospice for Utah, Alex Diamond and Brett Tasone. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Milton LDS Chapel, 1255 N. Morgan Valley Dr. Friends and family may call at Walker Mortuary in Morgan, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
