MORGAN - Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Walter Kent Williams of Morgan, Utah passed away peacefully at his home on July 5, 2013.
Kent was born on July 20, 1931 to Walter T. Williams and Arletta Rose in Tremonton, Utah. He lived many years in Samaria, Idaho. He was active in sports, including football and boxing, which he loved. During high school his nickname was "The Buttermilk Buzzsaw". He loved boxing and took district all four years of high school. He attended Albion State Normal College and Utah State.
Kent married the love of his life, Colleen Smith, on January 6, 1950. They were sealed together for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.
He loved farming and even after trying other professions, the farm always called him back. He was nominated for Farmer of the Year. In 1979 he was awarded the Outstanding Cooperator for his accomplishment in the conservation of soil, water and related resources. He served for 10 years on the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. In 1990 he received the Quality Bonus Award from the Western Diarymen Cooperative. In 1994 he was nominated and served on the Agricultural Service and Conservation State Committee where he helped administer Federal farm programs that affected Morgan County and helped get financing for the Porterville Pressure Water Pipeline.
Kent also loved horses. Along with other men, he started a cutter racing organization, that later became known as the Beehive Cutter Racing Association. He loved cutter racing and took the Quarter Horse Fiturity championship. Kent and Colleen also had the opportunity to manage a dairy and horse farm in upstate New York. There Kent was able to work with race horses and traveled to South Carolina and Kentucky and raced at the Belmont Racing Track.
Kent loved the outdoors and hunting. He and his sons loved spending time hunting, including a trip to Alaska with his son, Kirk, many trips to the Wind Rivers, a once in a life-time moose hunt and a trip with Sid, Kirk and Mitch to hunt wild sheep.
Kent was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions in the church, including serving with the scouts, the Elders Quorum President, the High Priest Group Leader and served as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple. He also served three missions, including a stake mission in 1952 in Malad, Idaho, a mission in Hawaii and an Ogden City Mission.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, LaDene and brother-in-law, Henry Richards and his two children Holli and Sid. Kent is survived by his loving wife, Colleen, sons Kirk (Pam) and Mitchel, daughter, Melody, and 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Morgan 8th Ward, 2700 South Morgan Valley Drive, Morgan, Utah at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at Walker Mortuary on Monday, July 8, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and from 9:45 am to 10:45 am on July 9th. He will be laid to rest in the South Morgan Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful friends and neighbors in Morgan for their love, concern and many acts of kindness over the past few months. They would also like to thank his caregivers, Dr. Hansen and the Staff at the McKay Dee Cancer Center and Ryan and Teresa.
