Wendell Evans

Wendell R. Evans – aka Sgt., Teacher, Mr. Evans, Dad, etc. traveled on to his next assignment on January 25, 2016.

Wendell was born August 20, 1932, Salt Lake City, UT the fourth of nine sons and three daughters born to Elizabeth Elzada Fietkau and Ward Evans of Boneta, Utah. He spent his youth in Boneta until joining the US Air Force at age 17.  He attended elementary school at Boneta, Mt. Emmons, and Altamont.  It was at the elementary school at Mt. Emmons where he and his classmate Donna Miles became friends.  They continued this friendship throughout their elementary, high school and college at BYU.   They were wed on May 1, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple while Wendell was on leave from the Air Force. They continued their schooling at BYU, graduating together in elementary education in 1961, at which time they moved to Coalville, Utah where they have resided since.  Wendell taught elementary school for many years in Coalville, Morgan and Lyman, Wyoming - working with the best young people in the world.  He also continued his career in the military, in the Air Force Reserves, Air National Guard and Army Reserves.  He retired after 35 years as a Master Sergeant.  Wendell was an active and dedicated member of the LDS church where he served in many capacities, including three missions with his eternal companion.

Wendell and Donna are the proud parents of six children,  Denise (Gib) Yardley of Beaver, UT:  Russell (Donna) Evans of Sacramento, CA;  Linda (Bill) Wilde of Hoytsville, UT;  Miles (Connie) Evans of Hoytsville UT;  Merilyn (deceased) (Rick) Smith of West Jordan, UT; and Dean (Joy) Evans of Hoytsville UT.  They are also the proud grandparents of 29 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.

Wendell is survived by his wife Donna, brothers: Gordon, Chad, Forest, Conrad, Val, and Burke; sisters: Eloise and Kathy; and children: Denise, Russell, Linda, Miles, and Dean.  Preceded in death by his daughter Merilyn and one grandson.

Funeral services to be held at the Hoytsville LDS chapel on Saturday, Jan 30 at 11:30 a.m.  A viewing will be Friday, Jan 29 from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church.

Interment at Mt. Home/Boneta Cemetery.
