Wendell Mikesell

December 1, 2007 — December 11, 2007

MORGAN- Wendell Samuel Mikesell, the love of my life, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at his home in Morgan at the age of 78.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a great coach. He was a friend to everyone he knew. There will be a great void in Morgan that will never be filled.

Wendell was born in Porterville, Utah on December 1, 1929. He was the oldest son of Samuel and Virginia Mikesell. He attended Morgan High School where he excelled in many sports. He received his honorary diploma in 2005 due to the Wartime Service Act for veterans. He lived in Porterville until he was drafted into the Korean conflict where he was proud to have served his country for 2 years.

He married Dorline Rock in the Salt Lake Temple in 1952 and they had 5 children together. Dorline passed away in 1982. He then married Shaunna Rock on October 1, 1982 and they raised 3 children together. Wendell and Shaunna had 25 happy years together.

Wendell worked for the railroad for 13 years. He retired from Ideal Cement Plant after working there for over 30 years. He also enjoyed working with several mink ranchers in the valley.

Wendell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he had many callings.

Wendell was a devoted and faithful follower of the Morgan Trojans. He was a true Trojan all his life. He helped start the Morgan Little League Football program in 1962, where he coached 3 generations of kids over a period of 45 years. He was grateful to be able to teach his sons and grandsons the love of football. Wendell was also involved in all aspects of sports throughout Morgan & Summit Counties. Some would say he did it for the love of the game, but Wendell would say he did it for the love of the kids.

Wendell continued to show this love by working as a crossing guard where he was very loved by all the kids he served. He will be greatly missed by all of them.

Later in life Wendell was proud to be a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He also had a love for horses that he raised all his life. He is survived by his wife Shaunna, his children Leatha Rae, Henefer; Kim (Beth), Evanston; Samuel (Laura), Pocatello; Merinda Sue, Henefer; Mitchell Lindsay, Salt Lake City; Chad (Julie), Morgan; Shandalee (Spencer Martin), Ogden. Grandsons Tyrel (Katie), K.C., Andrew, Brody, and Jordan and a granddaughter Brylee. Sisters Lavell Lythgoe, Carlene Doffee, Peggy Grossnickle. Brothers Scott & Gerald Mikesell, and a very large extended family. He was preceded in death by his daughter Annette, brother Darrel, and his parents. Wendell I have loved you all my life and will continue to love you forever, thank so much for so many wonderful and memorable years together. I love you, Shaunna Lou.
